Ulrich Fischer (44) is to lead HERMA's newly formed Pharmaceuticals team in the Labelling Machines division. A graduate engineer specialising in mechanical engineering, Ulrich Fischer has worked for HERMA since 1996, most recently as head of programming/electronics. "We have seen a significant rise in the number of projects and inquiries from the technically demanding pharmaceutical sector," says HERMA Managing Director Sven Schneller, explaining the company's increased focus on the sector. "In this way, we are responding to the needs of our customers as well."

The new Pharmaceuticals team leader believes the reason for the surge in demand is specific to HERMA. "In the past, pharmaceutical companies generally opted for labelling solutions that were tailor-made for one specific application," says Ulrich Fischer. Lately, however, customers have begun to rethink this strategy – and cost certainly plays a role. Now the emphasis is on flexibility. "The systematic modularity of our labelling technology in particular makes HERMA machines especially versatile, so that they are becoming increasingly attractive to pharmaceutical companies."

At the heart of the labelling technology range is the HERMA 400, currently the most compact applicator in its performance category. Whatever configuration is chosen, the basic drive unit remains the same. Left and right-handed versions of the HERMA 400 are available for upright, horizontal or suspended operation. and with widths of 80 mm, 160 mm, 240 mm or 320 mm. Thanks to the wide range of modules available, including pedestals, label sensors, and printing and embossing units, the HERMA 400 can be integrated easily into any production line or custom labelling machine made to suit specific requirements.
